The Online Instructional Chasm

A challenge for me as a reference librarian is to teach information literacy to online students. We do not have a formal instruction program for them set up. I explored setting up a information literacy course within Blackboard but then I would have to enroll students to the course; the Blackboard software is rather restrictive that way.

My goal is to create a free standing course that contains modules for students to access at their leisure. The course would contain links to subject guides, screen casts, the library blog, the library delicious site, and the "Ask A Librarian" link. I have not played around with Drupal or any of the other open CMS packages. This would be a worthwhile endeavor to attempt to close the gap in my library's instruction program.
